Runway

The walk is the real qualification, and it cannot be read off photographs. Pace, stride, how a model takes the turn, whether the upper body stays quiet — that decides whether a collection reads as worn or as demonstrated. So every runway enquiry involves moving footage, and it is what we ask models for before putting them forward for a show.

Measurements are stricter on the runway than anywhere else, because show pieces are one-offs. What does not fit is not worn, and alterations on show day cost time that does not exist. For the same reason fittings are not optional: cancelling the fitting simply moves the risk onto show day.

Timing is the third variable and the most underestimated. The gap between two models sets the rhythm of the show. A model who walks too fast crowds the one ahead; one who hesitates opens a hole. Experienced models hold the interval without being told — a line-up with many newcomers needs considerably more rehearsal, and that belongs in the schedule.

Practically: book more models than you have looks if the schedule is tight. Changing time, not walking, is the most common reason shows stall.
